Aside from the usual quality jams, Rambl got the chance to talk production, Timbaland and astral travelling with LA producer Mono/Poly. Charles first piqued our interest a few years back with his work on the Jay Scarlett/Circulations New Worlds compilation. He’s put out a few EP’s and LP’s (Oil Fields on Fat City featuring heavily on TCR), over the years and earlier in 2011 dropped his Manifestations EP on Brainfeeder. Early in 2012 we’ll be lucky enough to have Mono/Poly down in Australia for his first tour down under. Check!

We started off with a few classic moments in 7″ bliss from a few years back, with the incredible D-F (Dam Funk) remix of Red: The Man Without The Machine’s tune “I Should Tell Ya Momma On You” on Stones Throw records (check out the original discovery of the man):

as well as jams from Busy and Maxmillian Dunbar (I accidentally referred to his label as Outrageous Soulz which is actually the name of the track, the label is Future Times). Then it was time for some Aussie representation on the new Roots Manuva album, with our man Dizz1 providing the track for the tune “Here We Go Again”, plus heaps of new music from James Blake, Emika, Aardvark, Bnjmn, Juk Juk, Four Tet, Sully, Ifan Dafydd and Zomby. We also had a listen to some local jams from Booshank, Kloke and Galambo before going into some classic moments in deep house from Omar-S and Blaze. Quality stuff.

I was also briefly joined by the man behind Galambo, Bryan Phillips, who was on the show a month or so back. He is launching the debut album “Andakoyo” this weekend at Bar Open, check the flyer below (it’s FREE!). The album has been receiving great reviews, and was recently played by the Gotan Project along with a track from the Cumbia Cosmonauts who will also be playing the gig. TIP!!

Rambl was joined in the studio this evening by Chilean artist, designer and musician Bryan Phillips aka Galambo, to talk about his new concept album, Andakoyo, as well as his recent move to Melbourne. Co-produced with head of Konn Records, The Peronists, Andakoyo is a beautiful 25-minute excursion into the tribal soul of Chilé, shifted through the prism of modern electronic and dance sounds. Recorded over a single week, the album utilises traditional rhythms, chants and instruments and features Chilean folk musician and poet Talo Pinto, alongside modern production techniques and sounds with elements of minimal house and techno. Slated for release in October with a 25 minute video (you can check out the teaser above), we listened to the entire piece with a brief interview during the middle.

Alongside some of the usual business, we also heard a little dedication to Underground Resistance (excuse my incorrect reference to “Return of the Dragon” – the track is “Journey of the Dragon”) who will be on these shores as Galaxy 2 Galaxy in September (!!) for the Notions of Sonic Space gig featuring Deadbeat, Mike Huckabee, Tim Exile, Melbourne’s JPS as well as The City Rises’ own Rambl.
