As Martin L said in the previous post, 2011 has sure been heating up – and we ain’t talking about global warming! So much great new stuff, and it just keeps on coming! Firstly, though, a little tribute to soul legend The Left Reverend Eugene McDaniels, whose amazing music has been sampled so many times it’s amazing he’s not more well known. Although I neglected to mention it on air, the jam I played, ‘Jagger the Dagger’, was a tribute to his passing the previous week. And so it goes…
For the rest, it was back-to-back beat business at the beginning, kicking things off with Baba-X’s new release for Melbourne collective // This Thing // (available free here), a couple of cuts from the new Project Mooncircle release, Finest Ego: Ireland UK (also available free here), new Com Truise, Ras G and a remix of Dennis Coffey by Shigeto from the Strut and Fat Beats release Outer Galaxies: Dennis Coffey Remixed) (also available free here).
The second part of the show was a more uptempo affair with new cuts from the likes of Martyn on Brainfeeder, Lone releasing on Wigflex, Recloose forthcoming release, Joy O and Hudson Mohawk. Plus some great new local business from Donald’s House and Sean Deans, Machinedrum and the Harmonic 313 remix of Radiohead. Radiothon coming next week, subscribe, subscribe, subscribe!!

Been waiting awhile for this one. Rambl behind the desk, with a trip through the cosmos! How appropriate to have a photograph of The Sun Ra Arkestra playing a free concert in Melbourne’s Federation Square for the opening of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. It was quite a show, too! 40 minutes of the most astounding, swinging and beautiful space jazz from the masters of the art. Look out for our stings from Arkestra member Knoel Scott, taking TCR into truly cosmic territory.
