All hands on deck this week at the new time slot of Sunday nights, 8-10PM EST on Triple R Melbourne for the month of December. Nice.

Aside from the usual quality jams, Rambl got the chance to talk production, Timbaland and astral travelling with LA producer Mono/Poly. Charles first piqued our interest a few years back with his work on the Jay Scarlett/Circulations New Worlds compilation. He’s put out a few EP’s and LP’s (Oil Fields on Fat City featuring heavily on TCR), over the years and earlier in 2011 dropped his Manifestations EP on Brainfeeder. Early in 2012 we’ll be lucky enough to have Mono/Poly down in Australia for his first tour down under. Check!

Been waiting awhile for this one. Rambl behind the desk, with a trip through the cosmos! How appropriate to have a photograph of The Sun Ra Arkestra playing a free concert in Melbourne’s Federation Square for the opening of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. It was quite a show, too! 40 minutes of the most astounding, swinging and beautiful space jazz from the masters of the art. Look out for our stings from Arkestra member Knoel Scott, taking TCR into truly cosmic territory.

Speaking of, we started the week with a cut from another space jazz cat, Marcus Belgrave, who also worked with techno luminary Carl Craig. His jam Space Odyssey comes from his 1974 album, Gemini II. Check it. Also played the amazing Fantastic Mr Fox remix of Brandy’s Angel In Disguise and dedicated it to my super-hip friend, Izabel. Plus loads of the usual guff you’d expect from your cosmic co-travellers, The City Rises.

What a show this week. New jams from the likes of Actress, Taylor McFerrin, Africa Hitech, Bibio, Ekoplekz and Kahn as well as a smoking live set from Melbourne’s very own Mike Kaye.

Mike rinsed it at the recent Espionage feat Mount Kimbie show and he didn’t hold back in the studio. No stranger to performing Mike is part of Melbourne’s Jazz Crimes crew and plays plenty of shows in and around Melbourne. Inkswel and Rambl in the studio tonight, busting loose with some fresh magic. Cuts from Swiss soul-maverick Skymark, a new Madlib alias and Comtron released on Rush Hour led into fave James Blake and recent visitor A La Fu. The Detroit soul of Omar-S took us to another cut from the organic mechanoid funk of Actress’ debut full-length, Splazsh, a Trus’Me remix of Anothy Shakir and Mr Detroit himself, KDJ. Dropping down into some low-slung beats from Sir OJ, Om Unit from the fabulous Just Like Music compilations (free download!), a newie from the debut album Nothing Else of Illinois’ Lorn on FlyLo’s Brainfeeder label, and some more goodness from the Take album, we cranked it up towards the end with some heavy steppin.
